The Largest Organ

Doing everything from temperature control and protection to elimination.

Sometimes this organ is referred to as your “third kidney” because it is also the largest eliminative organ. If you guessed skin as your largest organ, you’d be right!

Skin is an organ ranking with the brain, heart and lungs in its importance to human life. It gushes blood when cut, washing out dirt and germs, and then rapidly starting the healing process. Skin also senses external and internal temperature. Then, it regulates it through the body. The millions of nerve endings sense touch and energy. Furthermore, your skin eliminates each day in the amount that should be equal to the elimination your lungs, kidneys, and bowels do.

The health of your skin is an internal issue not and external one. Your skin sheds hour by hour. What makes new skin? The answer is your cells, and your cells are created mostly if not completely by what you eat.

You must care for your skin as you would any vital organ. This can be done by:

  1. Sweating - Sitting in a sauna or steam baths, exercising, or even if you have a fever, these are all good ways to sweat. If your body does not sweat, your skin has become congested

  2. Dry skin brushing - Use a natural bristle dry brush to improve circulation and remove any congestion causing blocked skin pores

  3. Eat the rainbow - Reduce your intake of processed foods, dyes, and refined sugars. Eat as much fresh and colorful food as you can

Remember your body is an amazing, intelligent machine. Take care of yours, because it is your home.
