Summer Smoke Exposure: How Sauna Sessions Can Help!

Anyone else have watery eyes or stuffy noses this summer. On those really smoky days, I know people developed coughs or just had a hard time breathing because of asthma issues. Unfortunately, we had lots of smoke making its way through the area again this year, and when it came through it was strong.

Whether you’re a firefighter or you’re living in a community where you’ve been exposed to smoke from a wildfire, you should be encouraged to sweat.  This helps the body get rid of toxins like fine particles released from fires.

You can sweat by:

Extensive Exercise (Running or Cycling)

Infrared Sauna Therapy

Fine particles include:

Flame Retardants

PVC (home siding, toys, curtains, furniture, etc.)

Containing Chemicals such as:

Mercury

Phthalates

Dioxins

Fine particles from smoke have been linked to:

  • Deterioration of the Central Nervous System

  • Reproductive Harm

  • Irregular heartbeat

  • Aggravated asthma

  • Increased respiratory symptoms, such as irritation of the airways, coughing, or difficulty breathing.
