Posture and Sports

In July of this year, a study was performed on college athletes to see whether forward head posture had any implications on their play ability.

There were two groups. One group consisted of players with normal head posture and the other consisted of players with forward head posture. Abilities that were measured in this test were sensorimotor processing and skill-related physical fitness variables. 50 participants were collected matching for age, gender and body mass index.

The skill-related physical fitness variables selected for the study were (1) T-test agility, (2) leg power, (3) stork static balance test, and (4) Y-balance test. There were significant statistical differences between those with forward head posture and those who had normal head posture. College athletes with forward head posture exhibited altered sensorimotor processing and integration measurements and less efficient skill-related physical fitness compared with athletes with normal sagittal head posture alignment. As you may know, at CORE we do posture screens. This tells us where your body is structurally. Based on the results we can see how much stress is on your brain stem which is typically caused by head position. When we see that position and know the stress on your brain stem, we can get a pretty good idea of the communication patterns of your body.

Always remember, CORE Family Chiropractic is here to help you achieve your life goals to the best of our and your ability. Let us know your goals so we can work together to get you there.
